Zerodha only keeps candles for contracts that are live today. Expired options and expired futures have no 1- or 5-minute history, so this test covers the weeks that the currently listed contracts have traded. Change the other rules in Settings.

How the strategy works (in plain words)
1. Trend (5-minute chart of the Gold Mini future of the same month as the options). There are only two trends: bullish or bearish — never both.
• Start of each day: the first 5-min candle that closes above the 20 SMA makes the trend bullish; below it, bearish.
• A candle is below the 20 SMA when its open and close are both below it, or at least 80% of the candle (High to Low) is below it. Above is the mirror.
• Bullish → bearish when 3 red candles form in a row (even if all three are still above the 20 SMA), or a candle forms below the 20 SMA — immediately, without waiting for 3 reds — or a red candle crosses down through the 44 SMA and closes below VWAP.
• Bearish → bullish when 3 green candles form in a row, or a green candle crosses up through the 44 SMA and closes above VWAP, or a candle forms above the 20 SMA — but only after price has tested below the 20 SMA during this bearish phase (a candle's low went under the line).
• Example: 3 red candles all above the 20 SMA → bearish. Later green candles above the 20 SMA do not turn it bullish. Only after price dips below the 20 SMA and a candle then forms above it again (or 3 green candles form) does it turn bullish. If instead the bearish turn came from a candle forming below the 20 SMA, the next candle forming above it turns the trend bullish straight away.
• The same rules work in mirror image for a bullish phase that started below the 20 SMA (e.g. from 3 green candles). Nothing else changes the trend. VWAP restarts every day.
2. What to sell. Bullish → sell PE only. Bearish → sell CE only. No buy trades.
3. Trigger (1-minute chart of the option itself). The watch list is picked exactly as before: one PE and one CE from the 5 strikes nearest the future's price, priced inside the premium band, re-checked every 15 minutes. Only the side allowed by the trend is scanned. A bearish crossover (1-min candle opens above and closes below) of the 44 SMA or 200 SMA is the sell signal — but only if that candle is supported by the 1-min 20 SMA: the 20 SMA is completely above the candle (above its High), or touches the candle's body (between its open and close). If the 20 SMA is below the body, or only inside the upper wick, there is no signal.
4. Entry price. If the crossover candle's High–Low is bigger than the limit (20 points), a SELL LIMIT at the middle of the candle, (High + Low) ÷ 2, is placed. It counts as filled only when a later candle's high reaches that price (if a candle opens above it, the fill is at that open). If price closes above the 20 SMA first, the trend flips, or the day ends before that, the order is cancelled and no trade is counted. If the candle is 20 points or less, the sale is at the candle's close.
5. Exit. When a later candle (1-min or 5-min, as chosen above) closes above the crossover candle's high, or closes above the 20 SMA of the option chart, exit at that close. In backtests, anything still open at the end of the day is closed at the day's last candle.
• Start of each day: the first 5-min candle that closes above the 20 SMA makes the trend bullish; below it, bearish.
• A candle is below the 20 SMA when its open and close are both below it, or at least 80% of the candle (High to Low) is below it. Above is the mirror.

• Bearish → bullish when 3 green candles form in a row, or a green candle crosses up through the 44 SMA and closes above VWAP, or a candle forms above the 20 SMA — but only after price has tested below the 20 SMA during this bearish phase (a candle's low went under the line).
